How the Day Works

In-store first, from 8am

Black Friday releases go on sale in participating independent shops on the morning of Friday 27th November. It is first come, first served, so the queue outside your local is the whole game.

No pre-orders, no reservations

Participating shops are not allowed to reserve stock or take pre-orders. Anyone offering to put one aside before the day is not playing by the rules.

Leftovers go online afterwards

Shops can sell whatever is left over online shortly after the event. That is when stock appears and disappears within minutes, and it is exactly where MerchVault earns its keep.

What Is On The List

150 UK listings covering 146 unique titles. Prince, Bill Withers, Pat Metheny and Frank Black each appear on two different formats.

Support Your Local Record Store

Black Friday is the quieter sibling of April's Record Store Day, but it matters just as much to the shops. It lands at the start of the Christmas trading period, when a good morning's takings can carry an independent through a hard winter.

Go in person if you can

The full list is only ever properly available in-store on the day. Use the Store Locator to find your nearest participating shop and check what they are ordering in.

Buy something else while you are there

The exclusives bring people through the door, but the secondhand racks are what keep the lights on the rest of the year. If you have the cash, pick up a few more.

Get Ready for Black Friday

1

Check the full list and work out your two or three must-haves. With 150 releases and limited pressings, no shop stocks everything.

2

Ask your local which titles they are ordering. Shops decide their own allocation, so a quick conversation beats guessing.

3

Download MerchVault and set keyword filters for the records you missed. When leftovers hit the independents online, you will know first.
